the USN ranger is a coalition design, reflecting the needs of all the ULP nations. this stoic of the navy has seen action in almost every conflict of the war so far and looks nowhere near becoming obsolete - it's twin Morgansen Vengance class repeating rail-cannon were at the time of the ship's inception the largest weapons ever to be mounted on a sub-capital vessel and remain at the leading edge of weapons technology to this day.

the flotilla pictured here are on a routine training excercise over the young world of IIthis, one of the annexed naval training worlds in the Arreka-Tan system, a collection of uninhabitable, unhospitable worlds faboured by the USN training corps for their unforgiving nature.

i'd like to talk about the shader on te planet for a second cos i'm well proud of it. it is one procedural shader made with C4D's Bhodinut shaders - using fusions to 8 depths with procedural noises of different qualities. no image maps were used.

the clouds (although a lil harsh at the edges admittedly) have a baked luma map rendered from an alpha dummy of the lava shader, where a light was placed in the center of the planet and the lava areas were made transparent in order to allow the light to seep through onto the clouds.

this render doesnt really do this shader justice, you may see more of the "Young World of iithis" later on...

if anyone wants the shader to play with (and has a huge fat machine that it can't kill) email me.

I think I prefer the traditional method of created planets from scratch in Photoshop but I respect your vast skill with the 3d medium...and Im really interested to see how far you could take that. The ships don't stand out much from the background so it's a little hard to see them- sweet renders as usual.

Well, you can bet your money on "depth of field", that should separate your ships from the planet and make the rendering more believeable. It's common that 3D images do suffer from appearing too sharp and flawless that it's become difficult for people to accept.

Your starless nebula is quite beautifully done - it's really your planet that's so beautiful to look at. :)

Above all, I loved your ship design and texturings... I love, even more is your imagination - backing up your renderings with a backstory. This is certainly very uniquely you, and to me: it's the concept that mattered the most. :D :D :D

indeed, the planet is too distracting that i can't make out the ships, try rendering 2 images and compose them in photoshop

I must say I don't understand why camo on a spaceship, but cool.

Reminds me alot of "homogeania"
:iconhavocker:
Ha shut up! The rendering is well and the spaceship are too!

Keep up Strangelet
You got my respect for what you're doing

I love your planets man.
